Dark Lord Tournament Report

Image
Hi all. Max here: friend of Peter and fellow poster on this blog. As a Dark Lord believer since its first spoiler, I put my money where my mouth is and took it to the Opus 6 release tournament for TBZ. I'll briefly cover my thoughts on the card as well as my deck and then go over the tournament games. After, I'll explain how I would change the deck and what I think about Fire's position in the game. The Card If you ignore its stipulation, this card looks incredible on the surface. As an 8k for 3 CP, it is ahead of the curve and it has one of the few recurring damage abilities that do not require CP or attacking to activate. The ping damage is enough to smite small forwards such as Vikings or combine with other damage sources (Bomb) to deal with larger threats. The card has it all... except for one issue: it shortens your lifespan in a sense. In essence, the card is great but needs a deck that aims to close the game before milling becomes an issue. While it can ...

TBZ Circuit Opus VI Event 1

Hey guys! I’m back with another tournament report. After playing Sealed at AX, I grew to love this game even more, so I was excited to go to an actual competition other than Friday night locals. I had asked my buddy Max if he was interested in going since it was being held at Galaxy Games which is about an hour or so drive for both of us. Luckily, he was! For those of you that don’t know Max, I met him when I first started playing Magic and he basically always destroys me when we play. However, he was really nice and always helped me improve after we played and he was probably the biggest reason why I continued with Magic. In turn, it seems like I got him hooked on FFTCG which is great for me since I now have a great friend, practice partner, and rival with whom to practice and share ideas. When I returned from AX, Max and I got to talking about what we should bring to the tournament. I was on an Earth/Wind hybrid with the Dark package and he was on a variant of Ligh...

Opus VI Sealed Guide

Hi all! I was lucky enough to participate in 5 Sealed events at the Square Enix booth at AX2018. I was even more fortunate to take 1 st at two of them and narrowly lose in the semifinals for two others. My goal for writing this guide is to help newer players or players who have no idea about Sealed hopefully have more success at it! The way many of your Sealed pools will go is that you probably just play the colors you have the best cards in. Sometimes you will get lucky and have enough playables to only run 1-3 colors. Other times you may find yourself in 4 colors. I was lucky enough to have pools that were for the most part solid. I would grade them as B to A+. I did see some weaker pools from my girlfriend and some of the other players in the pod. We all dream of opening the busted Legends and having them carry us to victory. That’s usually not the case in Sealed. Usually having a bunch of strong Commons and Rares will get you there. As a general rule of thumb, you’ll...

2x Opus VI Sealed Champion Report

(No, these weren’t all in my deck and I did not receive them as prizes :P) Hey all! Peter here bringing you a tournament report during my weekend at AnimeExpo 2018. While I feel that tournament reports are usually reserved for top finishes at high-level events such as a Crystal Cup, I had such a positive experience that I feel compelled to share. My girlfriend and I have made a tradition of coming to AnimeExpo annually. We’ve been together for 3 years at this point and have always supported each other in following our hobbies and passions. We heard that Square Enix would have an FFTCG booth there and we contemplated bringing our decks there to play if we had some downtime. Ultimately, we decided that our main reason for coming to the Expo was to buy lots of anime merchandise, so we left our decks at home. (Obviously, something changed!) We flew to LA after staying up until 4 AM and riding some Lyfts. After getting to our hotel, we rushed to the convention center in...
