Peter's Top 3/Bottom 3 Cards

So I’ll try to make this a semi-regular fluff piece. Top 3 could be cards that I think are the best, interesting, undervalued, or just my favorites. Bottom 3 could be underperformers, cards I hate, or just dumb cards.

Top 3

1. Nidhogg

It’s no secret that this is my favorite card. It has all the elements that I love: big dragon, cool art, great effect, and it’s Dark, and he costs nine. Nine happens to be my favorite number and it always feels like you sacrifice everything to play him. I am over the moon that this card is a huge player in the meta. (Bad for my collection purposes, good for playability though!) Pretty much every game where I have resolved him, I won. (So maybe I should keep playing decks with him!) I saw the box art for Opus VIII this morning and it had another cool-looking dragon so I’m super excited and hope they keep printing more dragon forwards for me to play with!

2. Celes

Celes is one of my favorite characters from the Final Fantasy universe. Everyone knows how good this card is. Most people running ice always have 3 of her included. I first started the game playing ice and I feel like as I’ve improved, I’ve been able to utilize her more and more. I used to think she was just a worse Genesis, but I was very wrong. I learned that you can freeze more than just forwards. You can ping off weaker dull forwards or combo with something like Cid Raines. Countering a huge summon with Runic is also devastating. Also, who doesn’t love Amano art?

3. Lenna

Honestly, I don’t know why I love this card so much. Perhaps it’s the Amano art or I feel some sort of affinity with Lenna because she loves dragons as well. Her ability is very fun though. You can bring back Knights, Ephemeral Summoners, or Famed Mimic Gogo and build up a huge board for Cloud of Darkness later. Arise is also one of the strongest S abilities there is. Usually you will win pretty hard if you can bring something really good back.

Bottom 3

1. Squall

This card is stupid. I’d be more okay with it if it didn’t have one of these: haste, first strike, or going to 8k. I’m sure the design team had that all in mind when creating it though. I know he’s not even the best card in the Turbo Discard deck by any means (Gesper, Thaumaturge), but it just makes the deck faster and I hope the deck doesn’t get much more tools since I don’t enjoy playing or playing against it.

2. Rikku/Paine

I dislike cards that are immune to things or stop people from playing the game which is why I moved away from Yu-Gi-Oh. They’re obviously really powerful, but pretty annoying to play against. I’m glad fewer people are playing Gullwings now, but I was pretty sad not being able to Dadaluma ping, land big summons, etc. for a while.

3. Titan EX

I actually love this card, but it is super swingy. If you get it off EX, you usually get all the momentum back, or if you hardcast it, you usually 2 for 1 and are in prime position to win. I’ve gotten blown out by it enough times to be a little salty about it.
